  • Orientation and Gear Check: The day commences with an orientation that sets the stage for your extraordinary expedition. We'll ensure you're equipped for every challenge that lies ahead.

Our day begins with a comprehensive review of the latest information from the Mount Washington Avalanche Center avalanche advisory and the Mount Washington Observatory forecast. This knowledge forms the foundation of our decision-making throughout the expedition.

  • Master the Unpredictable: Our expert guides will lead you through essential topics, including:

    • Precision in safe route finding, especially in unfamiliar terrain

    • Discerning avalanche-prone areas and other lurking hazards

    • Navigating diverse and unpredictable snow stability conditions

    • Perfecting the art of skinning, skiing, and snowboarding in terrain that varies from steep to variable

The location of this course is as elusive as the treasures you'll discover. It hinges on prevailing conditions and the skill level of the group. Ratio

This course has a 4:1 ratio of participants per guide. The course cost is higher compared to intro/intermediate courses due to the lower ratio.

Ability Level

Participants looking to take this course should have previous backcountry skiing/snowboarding experience and feel comfortable making controlled turns on steep and/or gladed terrain in variable conditions. You should feel comfortable being outside in the mountains for 6-8 hours with enough physical ability to travel uphill with a pack for 3+ miles (with enough energy leftover for downhill travel and possibly checking out multiple locations).

Avalanche Safety Equipment

This course may travel in or approach avalanche terrain; avalanche safety equipment (transceiver, probe, shovel) is required for participation.


Prerequisites

Advanced resort skier/rider, very comfortable on black diamonds in varying conditions. Minimum of one or two seasons of backcountry experience. Basic experience with an avalanche beacon, probe, and shovel.

A minimum of two is required to activate this course.
