Jack up your adrenaline with a 48-hour film competition to test your camera, storytelling, decision-making and stress management skills to prepare for a unique debut in front of a vibrant yet forgiving crowd of festival-goers.

The Diamond 48 seeks adventure professional and semi-professional videographers to create a 2-3 minute video on topics/subjects found at the Festival.

The cannon fires on Thursday at 5pm and contestants have until Saturday at 5pm to complete their masterpiece. The top five finalists will premiere their film at the High George Beer & Gear event at Theater in the Wood on Saturday evening.

Winner takes home $1,000 cash by crowd vote.

Win $1,000! That's right, our #DIAMOND48 competition, a 48-hour video contest, has a nice prize package open for the taking! The video can be about any topic, event, or issue that is connected to the Backcountry Festival - but the ultimate goal is to promote STORYTELLING. What message can you convey that best connects with the audience? Remember, skiing is an art, videography is an art form. You don't need fancy equipment; this can be done with an iphone and general understanding of imovie.

You'll never have a more forgiving audience - you only have 48 hours to tell a story in 2-3 minutes. Ideas are endless, stories are forever!

DIAMOND 48

RULES OF COMPETITION

    • The purpose of the Diamond 48 is to showcase videography talent in the Northeast backcountry ski industry and provide a competition format where the best will rise to the top.

    • The D48 is geared toward professional and semi-professional videographers to produce stories from the Festival in pressurized environments, but anyone with an iphone and the ability to tell a story can enter.

    • Part of the OUTDOOR OFFICE series, this contest is designed to provide an audience for up and coming videographers to test their skills and launch a career or simply tell a story.

    • Fill out application form

    • Review the contest rules and guidelines

    • Review and complete the release form

    • Be present on Thursday at 5pm at Ledge Brew (exceptions possible please contact festival@skimtwashington.com)

    • Submit final product Saturday at 5pm in mp4 format

    • Under 21 can participate with parental consent.

    • All costs associated with the production of the submission are solely the responsibility of the Contestant(s)

    • Entrants must be present at the designated times at the designated events to participate.

    • To be eligible for the Contest, Entries must be the original work of the Entrant; must not infringe third-party's rights; must be suitable for publication (i.e., may not be obscene or indecent); must not contain obscene or pornographic material; may not contain defamatory statements about any person, company, organization or entity; may not invade privacy or other rights of any person, company or entity; may not in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations; and may not contain any copyrighted elements (other than as owned by the Entrant and/or D48).

    • Entries containing prohibited or inappropriate content as determined by the D48 Management Team, in its sole discretion, to be inappropriate will be disqualified. D48 reserves the right to make the final determination as to which Entries are eligible. D48 reserves the right to refuse to screen a film or to make an announcement at the screening regarding the content of the film. D48 reserves the right to alter a film in order to remove or delete offensive or defamatory content.

    • By submitting an Entry into the Diamond 48 Film Contest, each Entrant warrants and represents that the Entrant owns all rights to the Entry he/she is entering in this Contest, including, without limitation, the video or digital recording, and the performance contained in each Entry, with the exception of any assets provided by the D48 for use by Entrants in connection with this Project. Each Entrant further warrants and represents that the Entrant has obtained permission from each person who appears in the Entry to grant the rights to the Project Parties described in these Official Rules, and will submit copies of such permissions to the Project Parties.

    • By submitting an Entry, Entrant agrees to the Official Rules, and further agrees to indemnify and hold the D48, Mt. Washington Backcountry Ski Festival, LLC, Backyard Concept, LLC and Synnott Mountain Guides, LLC, and their respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, co-branders or other partners, and any of their employees (collectively, the Project Indemnitees), harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) and liabilities (including settlements), brought or asserted by any third party against any of the Contest Indemnitees due to or arising out of the Entrant's Entry materials in this Project, or the Entrant's conduct during and in connection with this Contest, including but not limited to trademark, copyright, or other intellectual property rights, right of publicity, right of privacy or defamation. Entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold harmless D48 and the Project Parties from any and all claims that any advertising, presentation, web content or any other material subsequently produced, presented, and/or prepared by or on behalf of D48 or the project partners infringes on the rights of Entrant's work as contained in any Entry.

    • Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 5pm.

    • Submissions are accepted up until 5pm on Saturday, February 11, 2022.

    • All footage, creativity and preparation (except equipment, organization, and scouting locations) must take place during the Official Time Period and in or around the Festival locations. Any creative work in advance of the competition weekend is prohibited. Creative work includes, but is not limited to:

      • Writing the script

      • Rehearsal

        Costume / Set Deisgn

      • Shooting

      • Editing

      • Sound Design

      • Rendering

      • Outputting to USB drive or other media

    • TOTAL RUNNING TIME. The finished “Short” film must be a minimum of 2 minutes in duration and a maximum of 3 minutes in duration, judged from after the required D48 Slates and ends prior to the end credits (if any).

    • COSTS. All costs associated with the production of the submission are solely the responsibility of the Contestant(s) including entrance fee costs.

    • PRESENT. Entrants must be present at the designated times at the designated events to participate (unless exception granted).

    • REQUIRED ELEMENTS. Connection to the Festival in some way, shape, or form.

    • CAMERA/EQUIPMENT. Any type of camera can be used.

    • ANIMALS. Animals are allowed in the films but disqualification is warranted for non-compliance of animal safety.

    • MEDIA FORMATS. Must submit in several mediums including online and a USB flash drive or third party online shared folder and final copy in mp4 format to play on macbook pro / quicktime. HORIZONTAL FILMING ONLY!

    • MUSIC. Participating groups are encouraged to work with a composer and/or musicians to write and record music for the films. It is permissible for a participating group to use pre-recorded music; however, the participating group must have the rights to any music used in its film and must provide releases for all music used. As with music, pre-recorded sound effects are allowed, but you must have rights to use them.

    • OWNERSHIP OR LICENSE. By submitting an Entry into the Diamond 48 Film Contest, each Entrant warrants and represents that the Entrant owns all rights to the Entry he/she is entering in this Contest, including, without limitation, the video or digital recording, and the performance contained in each Entry, with the exception of any assets provided by the D48 for use by Entrants in connection with this Project. Each Entrant further warrants and represents that the Entrant has obtained permission from each person who appears in the Entry to grant the rights to the Project Parties described in these Official Rules, and will submit copies of such permissions to the Project Parties.

    • INDEMNIFICATION. By submitting an Entry, Entrant agrees to the Official Rules, and further agrees to indemnify and hold the D48, Mt. Washington Backcountry Ski Festival, LLC, Backyard Concept, LLC and Synnott Mountain Guides, LLC, and their respective affiliates, officers, directors, agents, co-branders or other partners, and any of their employees (collectively, the Project Indemnitees), harmless from any and all claims, damages, expenses, costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees) and liabilities (including settlements), brought or asserted by any third party against any of the Contest Indemnitees due to or arising out of the Entrant's Entry materials in this Project, or the Entrant's conduct during and in connection with this Contest, including but not limited to trademark, copyright, or other intellectual property rights, right of publicity, right of privacy or defamation.     • Festival reserves the right to enter the Diamond 48 contest on its own behalf

  • Audience vote.

    • $1,000 cash prize

    • Other prizes may be added to sweeten the pot at the sole discretion of the Festival Director or other festival authority.

    • One overall winner will be selected by an audience online vote on the eve of Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Theater in the Wood.

    • In the event audience voting fails for technical reasons, Festival Director may select alternative process (e.g. Noise). Must be present to win.

    • Festival Director reserves the right to cancel contest for any reason or no reason and participants receive entry refund.

    • All withdrawals, cancellations and other defaults are not eligible for refunds less than 10 days prior to the event unless replacement team is promptly secured and follows the Process & Eligibility guidelines.

    • Withdrawals resulting from COVID-19 may be refunded if within 10 day notice period and willing replacement is available.

    • D48 and all partners may, in their sole discretion, disqualify Entries deemed to be inappropriate or otherwise non-compliant.

  • No liability or responsibility is assumed by Diamond 48, Mt. Washington Backcountry Ski Festvial, LLC, Backyard Concept, LLC, Synnott Mountain Guides, LLC (collectively, “D48”) resulting from any user's participation in or attempt to participate in D48 or ability or inability to upload or download any information in connection with participating in the Project. No responsibility or liability is assumed by D48 or Project Parties for technical problems or technical malfunction arising in connection with any of the following occurrences which may affect the operation of the Project: hardware or software errors; faulty computer, telephone, cable, satellite, network, electronic, wireless or Internet connectivity or other online communication problems; errors or limitations of any Internet service providers, servers, hosts or providers; garbled, jumbled or faulty data transmissions; failure of any e-mail transmissions to be sent or received; lost, late, delayed or intercepted e-mail transmissions; inaccessibility of the Web Site in whole or in part for any reason; traffic congestion on the Internet or the Web Site; unauthorized human or non-human intervention of the operation of the Project, including without limitation, unauthorized tampering, hacking, theft, virus, bugs, worms; or destruction of any aspect of the Project, or loss, miscount, misdirection, inaccessibility or unavailability of an email account used in connection with the Project. D48 an partners are not responsible for any typographical errors in the announcement of prizes or these Official Rules, or any inaccurate or incorrect data contained on the Web Site or social media sites maintained by the D48 or other parnters. Use of Web Site and the D48’s social media sites is at user's own risk. D48 and the Project Parties are not responsible for any personal injury or property damage or losses of any kind which may be sustained to user's or any other person's computer equipment resulting from participation in the Project, use of the Web Site or the download of any information from the Web Site. By participating in the Project, Entrant agrees to release, indemnify and hold D48 and Project Parties harmless from any and all claims, damages or liabilities arising from or relating to such Entrant's participation in the Project.
