The Backcountry Festival is intent on developing a strong pipeline to a prosperous future of adventure and profession here in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Our professional workforce program OUTDOOR OFFICE is developed in conjunction with Granite Outdoor Alliance, representing NH’s outdoor industry, and seeks to provide exposure to adventure professions including writing, videography, and photography through two-day courses.

The opportunity to switch gears and join the outdoor industry has never been more accessible than now. Learn from the best, roll up your sleeves, and bask in intense environments. You’ll be glad you did.

Adventure Certificate.

All participants will receive an outdoor industry certificate upon successful completion of the individual course. Each course will provide a hands-on experience through various real-life simulations happening at the Festival. Final projects will be in the form of a final work product ready for publication, which may arrive just in time for Saturday Night’s High George Beer & Gear event. Your time is now!

Programs for the Career Adventurer

  • Adventure Videography.

    The OUTDOOR OFFICE Adventure Videography course focuses on the various aspects of pre & post production, in the field capture, storytelling, and the editing process. The hardest part is making decisions and staying creative - it is truly a test of skill and composure to make it all come together in the end!

  • Outdoor Writing.

    Join this on-the-go writing course that takes you through the process of creating compelling content for brands! Learn how to step into the ski boots of your client to write in their brand voice, tips and tricks for scoring freelance gigs, and network with industry leaders at the BC Fest.

  • Adventure Photography.

    The OUTDOOR OFFICE adventure photography course is a coveted class and fills up quickly. Be ready for a crash course in production, technical camera aspects, and secrets from established regional photographers. This is an art!

Thanks to NEMO EQUIPMENT, a leading outdoor equipment design and manufacturing company based in Dover, NH, the Backcountry Festival is offering one scholarship spot. MEET THE INSTRUCTORS

  • Freelance Writer, Program Manager

    Sarah Lamagna is our Outdoor Office Director and Writing Instructor. Her career has spanned many topics and locations including working as a professional ecologist for almost fifteen years. She now makes a living as a freelance writer specializing in the outdoor travel industry.

  • Professional Photographer

    Joe Klementovich is a Professional Photographer and producer serving clients from The New York Times to The Nature Conservancy with stills, motion and multimedia productions. Joe focuses on small footprint productions, storytelling and top quality visuals.

  • Sustainability Director

    Nick Coe is an adventure sport videography/photographer with roots in Vermont. After studying film in college, he started is career in Colorado. Since then, he has traveled throughout the United States, South America, Patagonia, South Africa, and Central Asia documenting sport and travel.
