Description

Intro to Backcountry offers a comprehensive introduction to the backcountry experience on the East Coast. Supported by Inclusive Ski Touring, this program is designed to impart knowledge about essential equipment, techniques, interpersonal skills, and special considerations when venturing beyond resort environments. The day will be centered around the identities and experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. This intentional focus aims to create a space where the unique perspectives and narratives of BIPOC participants are not only acknowledged but celebrated.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

This course is designed for those with intermediate alpine skiing skills, but little to no ski touring or backcountry experience. This is not an avalanche education course, and it does not enter avalanche terrain. Participants must be able to descend black diamond terrain while downhill skiing or snowboarding confidently. You don't need to be a fast skier or snowboarder and we take multiple breaks on the way down.
