Dear Skiers and Riders,

We are making decisions at the 2020 Mt Washington Backcountry Ski Festival based on striking a balance between running the core aspects of the festival, while keeping public health best practices in mind.

The full day guided courses are headed out into the mountains today (Saturday) and that will continue on Sunday. Registration check-in details at Ragged Mountain Equipment are the same.

We have decided to cancel the social hours that were scheduled for 3:30-5:30pm on Saturday and Sunday at Ragged Mountain Equipment. As a reminder, the evening presentations scheduled for tonight (Saturday) are also canceled.

Thank you to all the participants, our partners, and the greater community for understanding.

Dear Northeast backcountry ski and ride community,

Like all of you, the leadership of the Mt Washington Backcountry Ski Festival has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 public health situation. In recent days, we have been in touch with many of our partners, guides and vendors, and we have also had consultation with a local physician and the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services. It is a tricky landscape through which we are currently navigating, but we wanted to let you know that we are moving forward with the event, but with some important modifications.

The core aspect of the festival—the GUIDED FULL-DAY SKI AND SNOWBOARD COURSES on Friday, Saturday and Sunday—WILL GO AHEAD AS PLANNED. We will still have demos and après events at Ragged Mountain Equipment.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to cancel the evening presentations at Theater in the Wood on Friday and Saturday nights. This was a tough decision, but we have decided to err on the side of being cautious. For those who paid in advance for tickets to these evening events, please know that you will receive a credit, and we certainly appreciate your understanding and flexibility.

Most importantly, we strongly urge that all festival participants follow the CDC recommendations for how we can all reduce the spread of this disease.

If you are sick (or starting to feel sick), DO NOT attend the festival. Additionally, please do not attend if you’re coming from a community with elevated risk of exposure or if you have recently traveled internationally in an area with elevated risk.

We understand that some people may not be comfortable attending the event in light of the current situation. If you would like to cancel, please reach out to us at festival@skimtwashington.com. Please be patient, because we are extremely busy dealing with last minute logistics, and rest assured, we will get back to you as soon as we can.

The core of this event is about sharing our passion for backcountry skiing and riding with like-minded enthusiasts, and some quality time communing in the mountains seems like something we could all use right now.

Thanks for your understanding—and all the best.
